All dubbed is geared towards a younger audience. Certainly younger then it is in Japan. Though there are exceptions such as Cowboy Bebop and GITS, generally these are rare.
Back in the seventies we had no subbed so we really didn't even know what we were missing. The script wasn't the only thing they did to make it more child friendly either. That dam robot named 7-Zark-7 still gives me nightmares. But watch any anime (both subbed and dubbed version) and say you still prefer the dubbed. Not gonna happen unless your under the age of 12.

I've only seen Cowboy Bebop and GITS Dubbed so i have no idear what the Japenes voice actors are like there probably brilliant i know when i watched shaman king in japenes i was like holly shit this so much better than the dubbed i watched as a kid.
