Default Akira's epic fail - 12-01-2011, 07:49 PM

This is the summary of the current working plot:
Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel.

Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.

Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo's mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel's troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

If this is the what the movie is going to be about then what an epic failure it's going to be. WTF are these ppl thinking. It's a given that a workable script for a live action adaptation will need messaging but this crap is a total rewrite.
As much work and effort that Katsuhiro Otomo put into Akira (close to 10 years I think), He can't be happy with this. Akira in name only.

Also...

"A teenage boy owns a bar?"

Some of the comments in ANN made me lol

But seriously, this is an atrocity. Akira is a goddamn masterpiece.

i'm going to go tetsuo on all of these live action makers... first they destroyed dragonball a classic in its own.. now they are going to attempt fate with akira the grandfather of anime in my opinion... leave akira alone we dont need any more epic fails of anime to live action.. unless we get someone that respects these shows and/or movies leave them be

I wish that they would leave it alone but we all know that's not going to happen. The moment $$ signs are seen in a project it's going to be made come hell or high water. Even if it makes absolutely no sense what so ever. Just look at The Air Bender movie and the fact that they plan on making part 2.

Dark days lay ahead.

I'm still waiting for the day they decide to make a live action movie of TTGL.

Dear God lets hope no one goes there.

GITS I can see (though it's been done in the Matrix), maybe even Cowboy Bebop. Not TTGL.

What about a Gundam series, or Trigun? I think Trigun can be done, Cowboy Bebop too. What about Code Geass? Death Note could be easy to make a live action movie. You really don't need any high tech stuff for that.
