Cheap cr*p here:

I also have a cheap setup, but it runs 1080p stuff just fine.

TV: LCD Medion 42" 1080p fullHD
Laptop: Asus F5: intel c2d, 4gb RAM, ati M HD3400, connected with HDMI to DVI
Speakers: random Genius, with wooden casing
OS: Win7 X64 ultimate
Player: MPC home cinema x64, with FFDshow and CoreAVC HD codec(this one is essential for playing 1080p stuff smoothly)

I work from home and have a pretty large and fairly sophisticated network with 5TB of storage. I convert everything to live on my storage system and use a media server (with 1TB hard drive) to play through my HDTV and sound systems.
