Default Transfer students - 11-06-2011, 11:09 PM

We have had a few,
last year we had one transferred here cuz they started living in my city.
this year we had one temporarily and he was soon gone, cuz they found a other home for him. < international temp student.
Also this year we got another one because they also transferred to this city.

In anime they over react when they see somebody new. It's more like that a transfer student is super rare. Okay they did ask some questions but it was not like that we started overloading him/her with questions. I don't either notice anything out of ordinary like the new kids gets bullied or the new kid can't make friends or something like that. Makes me wonder why they over react it in the anime. < I am making this thread while i am studying for my philosophy test XD

So what about your school?

Ah well just how popular do you suppose an anime where nothing happens out of the ordinary would be?
What most fans want are anime loosely based on reality. Story lines that are close enough to real life that we can believe, even if only a little, that it could happen to us. Or that we could be the protagonist/antagonist of the story in question. A close look at most anime will reveal some aspects of reality we deal with in our daily lives. With some fantasy to allow us an escape.

Instead of looking at it from a student in the class look at it from the students point of view being transfered. If you were the student wouldn't you want to stand out in some way or be interesting enough to be bombarded by questions from your new fellow students? Most of us wouldn't even mind being bullied as long as we get to kick ass in the end.

As for my school............well that was a very long time ago so lets not go there.

If I remember correctly from my Japanese class, transfer students are rare. I think the average rate is like 1 per year for the whole school. You see it in anime a lot because a lot of authors use the theme. If you look at each story separately, there's normally only 1 transfer student for that story.

As for school,..... not very fond of them so I'll skip it. Xp

i was a transfer student during all my school life..i went to 22 or something schools in around a dozen countries, but most of the time it was pretty normal..
Animes portrait it as a special thing but its actualy quiet boring..
Btw school sucks anywhere,everywhere.

Most of the times in anime you see that the transfer students gets friendly or he becomes rival of the protagonist. Said that i guess the mangaka tries to give an impact to the new boy/girl that comes in the class in order to make people more interest on him/her. Either way you will have to keep in mind that in anime they are over reacting with anything. (holding hands/kissing/drinking/ rich/ when someone has a specific talent ~transfer students etc...)

Although transfer students are rare in my country they always carried a story with them (just like anime). Wether they transered because they were bullied or they caused great trouble to the previous school (fighting, damage school property etc).
So anime with transfer students never seemed too strange to me since I had seen some of these cases in real life .

The closest thing I've seen to the over reaction to transfer students in manga, would be the entire front of a school, when I lived in Sicily, looking out the windows and waving hello to our group of US military brats, when we visited for our foreign language class.

When we got into the school, students that were passing by would come over and want to talk. My bleach blond hair seemed to get me more attention then the rest of the group.

I think the only reason it was over blown was because we were visiting for just one day though.

I was a transfer student once, in junior high school (or middle school, if you prefer it that way) I was a third year that time and it was hard fitting in, because the others had bonded during those two years while I was the "new guy". There wasn't any bullying or questions or whatever. They were just cold towards me and wouldn't speak to the first couple of months. In high school however, when we had a transfer student, from Ukraine, all including me were warm towards him and tried to make him feel like at home. I also remember that I was trying to speak a bit of Greek, since his vocabulary was poor at the time.

My point is, that all depends on the kinds of people you end up with. It isn't that rare, having a transfer student, but doen't happen every day either.

Also, to the comments that school sucks... I used to think that way while I was at school... Now I would give anything to get back lol.

I was a transfer student..twice...long long long time ago. I got bombarded by questions and attention but again I was a more interesting person than the most, being a foreign transfer.
