The best thing to do as a company is hire the fansubs to release a well done subtitled anime and then spent a decent amount of time and work to make a very good dub of the anime (even if i do not support dubs there is a part of the fans that rely on dubs). But they always go for the temporary and easy solutions in bussiness. That is their mistake.

Some visual novel-publishers in USA have started to use fan-translations for officially. I would like to see that to happen in anime scene aswell. Good fan-translation would also make sales better than dub/sub which basically have no any soul on it. (=commercial sub)

But, for me; Personally I hate watching dubs(traumatic memories of 4kids dubs).
Anyways, I do agree with point that if you're going to license series for sub/dub; then PLEASE DO IT PROPERLY. Not some half-assed release, which will make them lose profit.

Here is the reason why:[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (JAP) and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (US). The Jap GT is way better than US for every single reason.

umm....What's that got to do with anything in this thread?

This is about licensers dubbing/not dubbing the anime they release and why (and how).

Some releases are only available as subs for a very simple reason - economics. Remember this is a business, the companies involved will ultimately make their decisions based on what is financially their best option and some titles simply don't have a large enough prospective audience to warrant the much larger expense involved in producing a dubbed version. Releasing a niche title as subbed only is much cheaper (and faster though this is a minor consideration) and allows them to release titles that would never be picked up and released otherwise.

Not just economics...Maid-Sama has a fairly large prospective audience, so it's not what I would call a niche title. But it's sub only.... why? (I can think of the Geneon/Universal merger being part of it)

I don't think it's just money....Sometimes Red Tape gets in the way and that creates delays and shortcuts are made. Officially releasing something as subbed only means you don't need to negotiate for production materials.

It has something to do with a lot of things supply and demand for it, the popularity of it, the company interest, and it would it be appealing to a specific target audience who would buy and watch the dub anime, a lot of these factors are thought about before a anime gets dub, a company don't just dub out of no where, they are trying to make a profit at the of the day also.

one word: money. If they can make much of it, there will be dub, if no, then not.
