Default Movie and TV update - 11-05-2011, 02:17 PM

I was bored, what can I say..............

Movie and TV updates

MOVIES

Kite:
This is based off the first OVA not Kite Liberator. Personally I do believe that Kite is a good candidate for a live action adaptation. Director David R. Ellis said it will be something akin to Mad Max with a lot of parkour-style free-running. As opposed to wire work stunt stuff. I wish live action adaptations would focus more on lesser know anime/manga then properties like Akira. There is just way to much expectation that comes with the more popular anime and manga.

Rain For the Dead:

Yet another Zombie movie. This one is based on a manga. Since I have never read it I can't really comment on it's suitability for a live action adaptation.
The Synopsis:
"The story centers around a man and a woman in a world overrun by the living dead. The title is a reference to a plot point; the man can safely venture out of his home when it is raining, since the rain conceals his scent from the zombies". This is supposed to be released sometime this coming summer.

Oldboy:
This is a remake of a the 2003 Korean film of the same name.
The Synopsis:
A man kidnapped and imprisoned on his daughter’s birthday is held captive for fifteen years. Upon his release he embarks on an obsessive mission to find the reason for his imprisonment and soon finds out that his kidnapper has plans for him more tortuous than solitary confinement. It sounds exactly like the first one which was good. But with Spike Lee as the director who knows.

Akira:
I'm sure everyone now knows that after years of procrastination Akira is finally going into pre-production. As for the cast Gary Oldman has been offered the role of Colonel while Helena Bonham-Carter has been offered Lady Miyako. Garrett Hedlund, from Tron is in final negotiations to star as Kaneda, and Keira Knigtley as Kei.

TV

Noir:
This was a surprise. The live action series based on the anime is scheduled for the summer of 2012 on Starz. For those of you who have not seen the anime or read the manga.
The Synopsis:
Two female assassins working together on missions while they uncover their past and their connection with each other. Personally I liked the anime and I think that, if done right, could make for a really great TV series. I think another important aspect to this is that if it is done well and proves to be successful it will open the door for other similar projects for TV.

In the WTF category we have
(these are still up in the air so to speak)

Death Note:
This is Warner Bro's adaptation of the anime/manga not the one recently released in Japan. From what I have read Warner was trying to write out the character of Ryuk and change Light's character from evil to just misunderstood.

And finally Evangelion:
Nothing regarding an actual movie but I do find it interesting all the law suits over clarification of the rights in the option agreement. I also found it interesting just how many projects were anticipated to come from this property. These include "three (3) live action theatrical motion pictures, five (5) television programs and three (3) direct-to- video movies products), (including without limitation diffusion, merchandising, master toy rights, commercial tie-ups, soundtrack recordings, music publishing, character, theme park, remake, re- write, sequel, prequel and spin-off rights) and additional projects based thereon." A theme park? Ok I know the odds of that are slim to none but just the fact that they gave it serious thought should show just how greedy some bastards can be.

Sources are from comicbookmovie.com, ANN and Cruncyroll.
