Default Insanely quick query - 09-21-2011, 02:03 PM

Just a really quick query...but what file managers/torrent sites are people using to d/l anime?
I've got my PC back from the repair guy; apparently uTorrent/LimeWire are full of malicious virus sharers (knew this about LimeWire but didn't think uTorrent was that bad)

Can anyone recommend anything? Should i just stick to downloading one file at a time via fileserve/megaupload/hotfile?
Or can someone help me reconfigure uTorrent settings?

Any help would be a bonus; don't really want to risk d/l again in case i have to return computer.

just stick with torrents and get a free antivirus software, like avast or avg, and scan your computer regularly. That way even if one of the torrents do contain viruses those will catch them.

99% of the time if you download the new releases from subgroups off Nyaa.eu or TokyoTosho.info they won't contain any virusses.

In short -> DL the releases that are posted on AT, those are generally working and without virusses.

BakaBT for high-speed torrents of collected works or older stuff.

-edit- And you can leave utorrent alone: it works just fine fresh out of the box. You might want to specify the directory it downloads to. Other than that, don't get fancy unless you know what you're doing. If you really want to dive into it, then check out the utorrent forums.

Yet, for all my care, things were not merry in the house, and I thought it well to come away."

You're bound to run into viruses/trojans/worms sooner or later even if you stick to only DDLs or torrents. Learn some basic computer maintenance if you want to avoid getting them.

The only way to avoid malicious software is to never download anything..........ever. Oh and while your at it keep all family members off too.
As for uTorrent, I think your "repair guy" is talking out his ass. Or else he spends too much time downloading porn. I have never had any issues with downloading unsavory software with uTorrent. However it's only a matter of time before I do so that's why I have this nifty cool software called a..n..t..i..v..i..r..u..s. And it's not enough to have it on your computer, you have to use it.

Thanks for all help so far....except for the "don't download porn" one. You sound like my g/f and i don't need porn for the moment thank you very much!
I've tweaked utorrent here & there, and was still using XP up until recently. Also been using Norton and AVG since time began; i know my repair guy is talking out his backside as i have an ancient laptop i've used since university which i used to d/l everything...and it still works fine.

Maybe not quite "out his backside". When you "open" one of those torrent stubs (or whatever they are called) you are telling your computer to run a short script. There is potential for something mischievous to be in that script. My avg (PC-cillin from Trend - not recommending it, it's just what I've got) always scans them after I click "open" and before utorrent even hears about it. If these stub-things need scanning and might be bad for you, then it is not utorrent's fault. I'm 99.9999% sure that utorrent would not wittingly harm your PC.
