It have never got to me.
I think I already know how it's ending, cause I have spoiled for myself much like always. And if I remember correct I have read that many got disappointed with the ending. Maybe I'm wrong.

All humans have an AT Field (which through the entire series it was believed that only the Angels had them) which gives us a shape and seperates us from other people. The rebirth of Lilith destroyed mankind's AT Field and were in the process of uniting in Lilith's egg.

It was all triggered by The Human Instrumentality Project created by SEELE which could only start with the "release" of Unit 01. At that point the pilot of Unit 01, Shinji, would dictate mankind's fate by deciding to accept life, which would have left humans as seperate people... or by rejecting it, which he did because he hates himself and his own life, which would cause all life to become one. That's what SEELE wanted, thus they chose a whiney kid who hates himself to pilot Unit 01.

After you hear about the perspective of the anime's ending(and how they ran out of money so they had to do it) and E.O.E., it would make a lot of sense.

I am going to stick to the basics for this since it has been probably beaten to death.

Evangelion was good, I still need to see the movies but it's not everyone's cup of tea and definitely trippy at times. For a 90s anime it definitely highlights that decade I do prefer the TV end to the alternative end it at least it is happier. The dub for this is considered the best of all time in some people's opinion.

Back on to topic I'm excited for this but it will probably awhile before I actually see it.
