This is why the season started out the way it did.

It also allows new viewers to be introduced to the characters, as well as introduce the main antagonist for this season. Seeing how close his father was to the girl, he probably knew her quite well as a child.

So he started collecting his own yokai followers. Those yokai hunters are surely gonna be a pain in the future...

They seriously rushed this. The first part, when he got that samurai demon to drink with him, is a few chapters long. Well, they did get to the point and Rikuo did explain basically the whole point but I feel like something or someone was left out. It doesn't matter, I guess. They got to the good part and Rikuo can kick both of the hunters arses.

I really didn't understand too well how that samurai demon was protecting the kid.

I guess, Rikuo's, explanation wasn't enough. The manga was more in depth about Jami's past and his existence.

It seemed simple enough to me. After Jami became a yokai, with no other reason to exist, he decided to continue to serve his former master by protecting his descendants.

Well I personally have been enjoying this season. I dunno why some people are so impatient to keep watching after 'one episode of child-hood' and drop it.. it's like they've never watched anime before. o.O

Although I do wish that he had just beat the Yokai Hunters it does make sense that the author wouldn't write that. >:
