Question about Clannad movie -

I just got it from FYE but haven't finished the anime yet. Is it a retelling of the anime in an hour and a half, or is it a different story? I don't want to see the movie then see the same things/ending in the anime.

it's different story... but continuation from the half of the main story... like ending for tomoyo or kyo... just play the visual novel of it... you will understand... |

To clarify, it is an alternate telling of the first season along one possible route. It is not in the same storyline as the second season, After Story.
I would recommend watching in the following order: Clannad (1st season) Clannad: Another World, Tomoyo Chapter (1 episode ova, also called 'Clannad episode 24') Clannad: The Movie Clannad: After Story (2nd season) Clannad - Another World ~ Kyou Chapter (1 episode ova, also called 'After Story episode 25') Hope this helps!

Seriously, The first Clannad series, meaning Clannad ep1 - 23, is one of the best Japanese anime experiences that there is. So don't short-change it for yourself, which for me would mean the following:
1. If you view a version of Clannad with "ordered chapters", meaning that the intro and end do not play unless your video software is configured properly, make sure to have that proper configuration. A Clannad episode without that intro is different, and not as interesting. The reason is that it not only sets a mood, but it also reminds the viewer that there are things which can't be explained by what you've seen so far -that ordinary explanations of seemingly ordinary life events may not tell the whole story. It helps to set what those in literature call "the willing suspension of disbelief". And it's beautiful too. (The intro in episode 1 plays after the cherry trees but before any dorm scenes. If you can't configure your viewer to play the intro properly, then find a version that doesn't use ordered chapters. Doki has a nice one that doesn't.) 2. Watch a subbed version (subtitles) instead of a dubbed one (an English vocal cast). I'm not against dubbed versions in general, but in this case the English script moved too far away from the original text too often and for no discernible reasons. 3. 720p or higher if you can, like the Doki. I've never met anyone who didn't find the first Clannad series to be at least interesting. The second series is a little more controversial. Post a note when you get there, if you're still interested. Old Timers: Did you know, Clannad After Story is still available in our downloads section, and it still includes the weekly episode release comments from when it originally aired in 2008-2009, back when no one knew what would happen next? Some of those comments are fantastic. Others are much as you would expect. Try the episode 16 comments if you enjoy human suffering (well, these humans). My overall favorite comment involves "digging out our hearts with a rusty spoon". |
