Default Does Anime on Uk Tv suck this badly? - 02-07-2011, 12:12 AM

I sat down today and saw disney xd hd were showing pokemon movie 12 and i tuned in to see what it was like. I was shocked they were showing it in 4:3 definately upscaled from SD and the best part was the framerate was really bad it stuttered at every panning shot and was pactically unwatchable.

No wonder people download stuff on the net lol ,seems people in their spare time can encode a video better than a big uk broadcaster for shame >.<.

most of my anime viewing is from fansubs and blurays so I've never seen such poor treatment of a show , + Its kinda worse because its a movie lol, it was cropped to 4:3 and no even shown in widescreen >.<

Hmm, I just checked and the American release aspect ratio for the movie is 4:3. So I'd have to assume that 4:3 was its native ratio.

Edit: Ah, I may have discovered the framerate problem. Since the film was played on Disney XD HD, Disney likely used the American 60hz HD encode and simply converted it to the European 50hz HD, which would have resulted in a frame stutter. Disney could have avoided the issue by simply creating an all new European HD encode for the UK broadcast, but converting the existing encode was probably cheaper.

So there you go, Disney AND the EBU are equally to blame for your poor movie experience.

Id understand a tv show being 4:3 but a movie ??, plus is the US release 30fps i may download it as stuttervision (25fps) looks stupid.

The American standard is 30fps for tv. You could always try looking for a subbed version, since that will be the original Japanese version.
