We did live through better times. The Sci-Fi channel (as it was known back then, not some shitty misspelling) showed uncut anime movies and OVAs, before giving us our very own Saturday morning Japan/anime show with Evangelion and Martian successor Nadesico. It all went downhill very fast and within 6 months stopped showing anime altogether. Then in 2002 we had a WHOLE CHANNEL called CNX, dedicated to awesome uncut anime such as Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star. That failed within a year and the channel was cut back and eventually renamed Toonami, (which died too at some point down the line). Its a shame too, as CNX was pretty good. It would have been easy for Cartoon Network to get more programs on it from the American Adult Swim block, but they didn't.
Things were bad for a while, but not that long ago we had yet another channel called Anime Central. That was good but the video quality was bad, much like it's been mentioned already in this thread. I remember watching clips of GITS SAC and thinking the video quality looked 10 times better on DVD. Anyway, it this channel was good for watching Escaflowne and Planetes. Since then there has been very little on TV. The occasional Ghibli film on Film Four, But hey, who watches anime on TV channels anymore, right? |
