What the hell was the point of making an epilogue?! She talked about meta-physical crap for 30 freaking minutes... And she was a completely new third personality that never got a mention even once in the seven freaking movies of the series!!

What was the point of making a 30 minute long "epilogue" then introduce a new personality and simply spend the 30 minutes explaining where the hell she came from?!

The last 5 minutes of the seventh movie was a better epilogue then this... It made no sense at all to make it!

There was certainly a lot of somewhat contrived babble of dualism and somatic psychology, but it's to be expected - it's Nasuverse after all.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] explains stuff a bit better, but I feel they could've done a better job explaining rather than a solid half hour lecture. It seemed like Shiki would talk for 10 minutes and Kokutou would basically summarise what she'd just said in a single sentence.

I'm sure a lot of readers of the visual novels would probably be more appreciative of this epilogue, whilst the people who've only seen the adaptations would likely want to see more closure between the two leads or perhaps some additional action. I've seen some people express how the side story, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], should have been animated as the epilogue instead.

A lot of people have mentioned how gorgeous this epilogue is and I agree to an extent, but there wasn't really much to be animated. The snow was cgi so didn't take much effort to make it look or fall realistically and the two characters were essentially standing still the whole time, so they could colour and shade them with a lot of detail. It felt more like a voiced manga at times.

Overall, not quite as good as the movies, but still a reasonably good watch if you're a fan of Kara no Kyoukai.

It is great.

The reason that the third personality was not mention is because you are not supposed to know about it before(no character in the movies knew before the epilogue)...

People just need to learn to appreciate good dialogues instead of flashy battle scenes...

Seo is a underclass person of Tohno Akiha and knows Nanaya/Tohno Shiki(also seems to be well acquainted)... unless I got the name wrong and it is another Seo

And Shiki probably still kept his harem which consists of REAL vampire, senpai with lots of hidden daggers, and imouto(not counting what happened in Melty Blood).

I haven't watched it but from what I read, I suppose the epilogue is basically a more true ending to the series since the ending in 7th movie felt like a rush. Personally, I would have preferred it to be different, but either way it adds closure to the anime.

Yeah, I second that. It's a shame that Tsukihime was way too early for its time and now KnK and, especially, Fate (a movie, a copy of Persona are enough) are getting to darn attention. Tsukihime really needs a remake (or a Melty Blood anime would be fine).

Again, I'd said this so many times in the last few days. The movies missed or deliberately missed a lot of details as opposed to novels. This "third personality" actually appeared in Mujun Rasen. But of course they didn't show that. Also, the link duh posted pretty much sums it up.

I also thought the OVA wouldve covered Mirai Fukuin side story, though i wished that they would animate one of the manga shorts that had Mana Ryougi.

Still looking for more info and pics of Mana Ryougi from the side story.

Unnecessary but still interesting.
The fact is that this epilogue does not add useful information to the animated series at all. The third personality - or rather, the original personality - makes no difference to Kokuto, much less to those who are watching the show.

But then, we can see how Kara no Kyoukai is truly a master piece. No one ever bothered to think that there could be more than two personalities inside Ryogi Shiki. And that the primary persona was already aware of its Origin! (thus making Araya Souren uncapable of defeating Shiki) Also, it's interesting when it hints that Kokuto, and not Shiki, is the one that is really lonely, for he wants nothing for himself (maybe his Origin, too, is the Emptiness).

Too bad it does not show their daughter, but again it's not something anyone miss. And despite it being almost a half-hour monologue, it's still Kara no Kyoukai in every sentence.

PS: It was just me or this Epilogue made someone else remember Xenogears? 'Cause Wong Fei Fong and Ryougi Shiki both have three personas: one being a destructive one, other being the one who is living in the story plot and a third who is the original, but does not show itself.

I loved it! It explained how Shiki got her Mystic Eyes of Death Perception and why having that ability makes her almost unbeatable and the perfect killer.

But I have to admit I only loved it because it was Shiki Ryougi talking... if it were someone else I would have stopped watching like 30 seconds after she started talking. LOL.
