Well they have stamina so they last longer than a punch in the face. Also they have techniques to counter their opponents technique unless they get attack by surprised or a cheap shot. Some of the techniques makes the fighting pretty too.

Plus theres only a limited ways you can fight with no type of training or special powers. Unless they do what they did in history's strongest disciple and make a character who fights purely on instinct (Berserker).
