Default That one episode - 12-06-2010, 03:52 PM

So after recently rewatching TTGL it got me to thinking.

Sometimes when you're watching a series theres one episode, just one episode that stands out. Sometimes its because of a moment of untoppable awesome/garness. Sometimes because of a truly unexpected (and either pure genius or pure demon) plot twist.

Episodes where you mention them to someone and they know exactly which episode you mean, often knowing the episode number.

Episodes that define a series.

So I ask you this question: Which episodes do you think are "that one episode"?

the first 3 that I can think of are

1; Episode 8 of tengen toppa Gurren Laggan. If you don't know which episode this is, then you've obviously never watched the series. 'Nuff said.

2; Episode 14 of Fate/Stay night. The episode where arcer goes from cool side character, to legendary avatar of GAR.

and finally
3; Episode 8 of School Days. Although it is possibly the most hated anime episode ever created, it did define the series, and change school days from a disliked series, into the stuff of nightmares and flame wars. Once again if you've seen the series then you know what happened in this episode. YOU KNOW.

I concur with TTGL, and here are some of mine lest I bore you with all of them. This post will be most SPOILERIFIC, so be warned.

1. Episode 25, Death Note. If you've ever watched this series, this picture should jog your memory:

2. One Outs, Episode 11. When he explains Johnson's restrictions and how he really isn't a threat, that is when he turns his team into championship material as they truly believe in him.

3. Say what you will, but the Ulquiorra Fight in Bleach was the pinnacle for both animation and how GAR Ichigo can become Episode 271 I think it was? That defined how much of a true "Shonen Hero" he is. Godmodes can be defining moments, I think.

4. Last Episode, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai, showing how no matter how hopeless you think your fate is, you can shatter it with the right pieces. 100 years of repeating the same month over and over and dying ad nauseum like a demonic groundhog day, growing tired of losing every time.. to finally shatter fate.

5. Episode 7, Baccano! -"Everything Starts Aboard the Advenna Avis" - explains the much needed back-story to give this the true feel of a deep anime, and succeeds.

I could rattle on and on, but those are just some that stick out at the moment for me. I know if I thought on it, there are tons of better examples then these, but I've been up all night and it's not 8:34 am in the morning. /anime then sleep.

Again, I agree about TTGL and I actually have some examples of "the episode" from other series. This may be spoileriffic, depending on my mood :3

1. Clannad Afterstory-Episode 18. The scene in the field is one of the most emotional and powerful scenes I have ever seen in an anime series. It's my favorite episode in the entire Clannad series and it's the scene is powerful enough to make even Kamina shed a manly tear.

2. Now and Then, Here and There- Episode 6: Sarah's escape. The very first 5 minutes of this episode contains perhaps the most memorable moment of the series. In this time Sarah almost gets raped, fights for her life not to get abused yet again and later basks in the glowing moonlight as a confirmation of her freedom. Fucking awesome.

3. Black Lagoon-Episode 10. THE MAID. The FUCKING maid.

4. Toradora-Episode 21. The fight, the confession, and the snowstorm. The perfect mix of delicious drama and wonderful cliffhanger that had me on edge for an entire week.

5. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-Episode 12. "Live Alive." The fact that I remember the name of the episode, is a testament to how awesome this episode was.

Thanks Weika and Drah for the awesome sigs

Well episode 19 of Shuffle.. Really gives me a wrong impression on Kaede, it seems that Rin chooses Asa-senpai over her. Turns out that KAede, had gone berserk.

Episode 8 in Arakawa Under the Bridge- has the cheesiest scene that I have watched so far, Nino x Kou were officially a couple despite of their differences

DBZ Ep.81 - Goku goes Super Saiyan. Easily the most epic moment eva!

Naruto Ep.132 - Naruto decided to pwn sasuke

And I can't remember the exact episode # but in ef a tale of memories there was an episode where the main girl goes crazy or smth and weird text flashes on the screen for like a 5 mins...

1. Bleach: When Ichigo is fighting Byakuya to save Rukia. That is the best you can get from Bleach. It goes downhill from there.

2. Episode 25 of Gundam 00 2nd season. When Setsuna activates Trans-Am in 00, I feel like I can pawn just about ANYTHING. And the way he kicked Ribbon's ass is a pure awesomeness.

3. Fate/Stay Night : Oh, how can I forget the episodes when Archer made the best awesomegasm moment ever. "I am the bone of my sword...." I got shivers when he utter that spell.

That fight is nothing compared to some recent fights

Thats the episode 14 I mentioned earlier. And an episode that I'm amazed I forgot to mention before....

Episode 9 of Mobile suit Gundam. Home of the original Bright Slap

Bright Noa. Making Men Out of Boys Since 1979

EDIT: Also Hellsing Episode 6; just because after Alucard had spent the first 5 episodes just playing with his enemies, we finally see a new one who was literally miles ahead of them, well, well out of their class. I expected to see Alucard get challenged. Instead he merely plays with his food, just like all the previous times. To me its this episode that truly illustrates how ridiculously strong he is.
