So apparently Funimation is submitting Summer Wars for the next Oscars awards. I think it's great for anime to be exposed to the public, especially with such a masterpiece such as Summer Wars.
Personally I think would would actually make anime a more recognized genre is if there was an actual non premium channel that showed anime (non naruto-tard kind anyways). As for summer wars i've never gotten a chance to see it so i can't comment on it personally.

I am telling you right now that you are missing out on a very good film, you should watch it asap lol. As with having anime as a recognized genre, I doubt that would happen with something as mainstream as the Oscars here in the US. Most people who have not watched anime see it as just "cartoons". Does anyone know if there's some sort of anime awards in japan that's similar to the oscars?

Summer Wars is a great anime movie that is worthy of Oscar contention. You should watch it. WATCH IT NOW! Or at your won convenience. It'll still be just as good.
Haha you should definitely watch it, especially since your forum title is otaku . I'm surprised there are still people in animetake that haven't seen this since it was hyped so much on websites when it came out in theaters in Japan (or atleast I thought it was).
