Well, that's why I said that's like an impossibility. I'm sure there's an equivalent to it in Asian countries, but not as commercialized as the awards in the U.S.

Yeah there is probably some sort of award like that in the Asian countries, but alas their is already a winner for it called..... K-On: The Movie. The epic adventures of a girl who put's on cat ears, says Nyan, and millions of bricks were shat.

I'm all for anime being popular in the US, but I think the current award categories are just fine. The latest category addition, Best Animated Feature, should be enough to give foreign animations a chance to shine.

As for K-On, after watching the first season, I never really saw what made it so great.

"Koiso Kenji, a eleventh-grader math genius who works in the summer as a part time computer technician for the virtual world of Oz (imagine facebook a handful of decades in the future), is invited by the most popular girl at his high school to her expansive family’s home for a summer job. In the middle of their trip, a hacker infiltrates the network and takes control of Oz, plunging humanity into absolute chaos.

Hosoda Mamoru continues where Miyazaki Hayao leaves off in this film loaded with action and emotion that combines beautiful tradition and humor with one of the season’s most imaginative creations: the luminous world of Oz. Virtual rabbit-like heroes take on monstrous shadows in this indisputable summit of anime.

2010 - Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year"

I liked Summer Wars... A LOT! But... not Oscar nomination worthy IMO. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time however should be nominated for the GREATEST MOVIE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE Oscar. It would still lose though, cuz The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is THE GREATEST MOVIE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!!! LOL.
