For me it all started with Transformers season 1 when it was showing in my neck of woods (original was 2 years before I was even born) in '89. I couldn't get enough of it and that was the reason I learned German to watch it on their channels.

But what hooked me for the rest of my life was Ghost in the shell (my all time favorite without question) and later on Shaman King which was also my first manga collection in all its forms until present day (2010 re-edit).

Nowadays I watch a lot of animes but I also became very picky with years so not everything works for me Non the less some made it into my DVD collection, like Amagami SS ...

Ummm Inuyasha started my trend towards subbed anime (went and bought all the Ranma Seasons....Then started watching UY which there is only about 4/8 dubbed episodes but the rest is japanese only.

Transformers G1 seasons 1,2,3 and the movie aren't anime. The toys may have been rebranded japanese toys (rebranding happens a lot). And it may have been animated in Japan for all a lot of it (but not all of it *shudders*), That's contracting/outsourcing but that doesn't make the series Japanese than the Simpsons is Korean.

Headmasters, Masterforce and so on however are anime....And my god they were lame.....Galvatron dying to a circle of friendship and being buried in Ice? How ____ing stupid.

Not necessarily a fan, but watching akira for the first time as anime and not just a cartoon introduced me to the awesome world of anime. Now I can say that anime is my favorite form of entertainment and I will be a fan of anime forever.
