Default Should Anime Raws be free? - 10-14-2010, 11:17 AM

Recently the people behind releasing one piece raws on Sunday have decided to release on Monday, now all the other raw providers have begun charging for raws if you want them on Sunday. Do you guys think this is a fair practice considering all other raws release for free online around airtime plus one piece is on a freely receivable network in japan.

That's a bit silly if they start charging for raws... someone will come and distribute them for free anyway. Not that few days make much of a difference.

this happen everywhere. just like animesites (animetake, animea and etc). they gain some financial profit for something free (just sharing). don't ask this question again son. the difference is just perspective.

This would be like someone in China saying should Hollywood ripped DVD copies be free because they are not subbed in Chinese.

To correct myself, it say more along the lines of copying the raw files out of a DVD be free (illegal btw)

Wrong question to ask before using common sense.

We already know the way we aquire anime is illegal but in fairness the publishers dont make it easy to aquire anime legally. (speaking of one piece as I live in Ireland)

Im just asking is it morally correct for someone to charge money for something which they aquire for free.

No this is in the same context as someone selling fansubbed anime to make a profit.

can it be done: sure, (and im sure someone already has, but these people want money and money not caring about anything else)

is it legal: definite no (it was illegal from the start)

is it morally wrong: depends on the person and what they view morals as (see my first comment about if it can be done and you be the judge on morals)

That's not the right question because you can gain actual ownership of something without money changing hands, but this involves people trying to sell something that doesn't belong to them to begin with. There shouldn't even be any need to ask about whether that's morally correct...

oh wow I didn't know people would charge money for raws.. anyways I think what keeps an anime community-based site like animetake or bakabt is the fact that people distribute anime/manga for free with other users. I think companies start looking into making legal actions when others start making profit over something they have no credit in making.
