The reason why the ps3 and 360 are so unreliable it because they used tin based solder to mount the chips to the board. Whats wrong with tin? Its very brittle and as your console goes from hot to cold it can crack. Past gen systems used something else that was 200 times better but it wasn't "green"(earth friendly) so they gave us this crap. If its out of warranty usually you can fix a cold solder joint by applying enough heat to melt the solder. Many people have fixed their systems this way but its not garunteed to work.

O.o mine its out of warranty but have been working for more than 6 month after i had it repaired so i think they gave me a good console.the other ones that got repaired lasted like 5 months and then died(referring to xbox360 crap console).i might try that fix if my console dies again and ps3 don't have much to say about it i dont have it yet but my friend ps3 burned...
