The best way to learn japanese is to move to japan and be immersed in the culture/language.
I went to Japan in October and it was awesome of course. I had studied quite a bit...taken a JP 1 class, even bought that rosetta stone program (which was ok) but I always seemed to forget stuff
(vocabulary, sentence structure, reading katakana/hirigana,etc)
...until I was finally in country, it all came back because I was using it every day to interact with everyone.
...of course having said all that,two months later I've forgotten half of it again.
