blu-ray is 720p and 1080p. but it really depends on your monitors res. if its 1080p or higher you would want the 1080p because stretching the 720p to 1080p normally means it wont look as good clean and sharp. normally as in the bit-rates are adequate for the resolution and the encoding was done right. for example i prefer zero-raws 1080p over thoras 720p cuz at my monitors res, 2048x1152, you can see how the player stretches the media. now i cant say which is better as i havent see either but i do know thora does get the closest to perfect as you can get.

ps: the 720p and 1080p are the "HIGHT" of the media meaning the second number in the resolution. so if your monitor is 1024x768, or whatever that 4:3 is, you can only play 720p video not 1080p
