Phantom sucks, just like Ghost.
thought it would be a great anime but ep 2 & 3 were so damn shitty that I’m dropping it so badly…

U can ignore my comment I failed as booyah can tell you, but yeah Phantom is a bit of a let down. I was really hoping it was going to be of high quality.

Phantom’s a real intense anime.Looks like a noir rip off but it looks so much better than Noir.Just b cos some people don’t like the brainwashing and the intensity of phantom,it doesn’t become a bad show.
In fact I consider this as the best thi season so far with Eden a close second.Oh! btw Phantom 4th ep was pretty badass!

Phantom isn’t as good as it could be because what is going to happen is too obvious. Ein is too predictable and Inferno is just laughable.

Eden>Basquash>Phantom>Impassable wall>Infinite gap>07-Ghost.

Phantom really is predictable. Here is the general formula: The guy and gal will start falling in love, or some drama-ish drivel. Clues about their past will start popping up, and they will start having internal dilemmas. They’ll turn on Inferno at some point, and Inferno will try to do them in. They’re going to shoot everything, and there will be an ending full of mindless melodrama. The End.

This last bit is a bit out on a limb, but I’m guessing it will happen: The guy will sink further and further into the “dark side,” as the girl becomes more and more humanized. She will probably snap him out of it or some crap like that.

There will be a bunch of “I want to protect people important to me” or “I don’t want to be alone/ I don’t have to be alone” themes along the way.

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of phantom and I considered it rather mediocre, sure the animation was nice but plot hmm… I’ll probably still watch more later, as it has potential to improve… alot.

As for this series, Booya is just a hater D: It’s not in my top picks for this season so far, but the characters do have an interesting background, and the plot is there and at least somewhat interesting. Whether it will be slow or fast to pick up the pace has yet to be seen, though.
My picks would be ordered something like this, in a broadly grouped order. Groupings are not necessarily in order within the group, just the group as a whole:

Cross Game/Eden of the east >/= K-on/Basquash > 07 ghost/Tayutama/Guin Saga/Valkyria Chronicles/saki > Tears to tiara/Pandora hearts/Natsu no arashi/higepiyo > Sengoku basara/Phantom/Dragonball kai/queens blade > gap > Watching grass grow/paint dry > punching myself >>>> big gap >>>> ristorante paradiso.

Haven’t placed hatsukoi, hayate, or fullmetal yet, as I’ve only seen the first episode of each.

Also, have yet to watch any episodes of souten kouro or hanasakeru seishounen, so they are not on the list too.

Don’t think I missed anything else, from the new season.

And putting K-on anywhere near Eden automatically nullifies, and voids your opinion.

@arthuriss Your posts have too little correct usage of spelling and punctuation, and too much of a fanboy-stled rant to them. Feel free to clearly explain what makes phantom so great, from the episodes so far. :X

All I’ve seen to it in the first 2 episodes is:

-Organisation/mafia wants power.
-Get guy/girl to be super assasins, to try and obtain power.
-Insert some average action scenes and minimal dialogue/plot.
-Give no background to characters to try make it mysterious/interesting, but characters aren’t really interesting so you don’t particularly care. This is where eden got it right, the main character is INTERESTING.
-Try and add serious undertones, to make them seem like they’ve been made into killers, although it seems to artificial/unrealistic.

I could probably make a bigger list D:

I don’t hate the series, but I could definitely place many other series so far ahead of it.

@darkninjax A good action series has action yes, but it is also strong on plot, which is what I have yet to see from phantom. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch black lagoon. That is a much better example of an action series. :)

@booya k-on is not at all strong in plot, but it successfully puts a plotline of a series I would normally never consider watching, covers it well with moe and makes the characters interesting and well characterised, and worth watching. Sure, it’s not for everyone but I was impressed with the way kyo-ani produced it. D:

Listen, I left it at K-on, but then you’ve got Tayutama anywhere but the bottom so that’s another strike. And then you’ve got the K-on clone Saki in the second tier there as well, so that’s one more strike. Then you’ve got Basara and Phantom at the bottom, and Natsu no Arashi above them. I mean, I don’t even know what to say…

I guess tayutama should be down a notch. Characters were more enthusiastic than interesting, and plot is rather on the typical/mediocre side of things. But I still found it more watchable/interesting than tears/pandora so far, and higepiyo episodes are like 5 minutes so it doesn’t really compare either. Perhaps I should have made another tier, but it was at the lower end of the tier I put it in anyway. Saki would probably go in the tayutama tier too, however I can’t help but enjoy this series more than I should. :X

As for natsu no arashi, I definitely consider it above basara and phantom (not in terms of animation, but in terms of uniqueness/plot/characters). If I wanted to be pesimistic I’d say basara was dragonball z meets dynasty warriors, with even more machoistic airheaded, bigoted males speaking their own morals and views to each other, disagreeing, then the fireworks start. Combine that with an almost non existant plotline….. But that would probably be getting carried away, so I’ll just say it’s not my thing. :X

Phantom, as above, I just found boring/mediocre, although I will watch episodes 3 and 4 later to see if anything more happens.

@arthuruss I’ll look around on the forums to try and find why phantom is so great, but you still haven’t listed anything here. Euphoria is just another fanboy notion, which doesn’t necessarily make it great, but I won’t dig at it, as I have one series which I get like that too (which will have an anime in july), umineko no naku koro ni, the games, anyway. :X

Please give a reasoned arguement as to why I am wrong, rather than blatantly denying them without much basis. All I have seen so far is insults, not reasoning. :D

I agree, actually. There’s no way to convince someone of a different mindset that they are wrong (whether or no they are wrong), as no matter how hard you try reasoning with them they will not change their views.

Indeed, just a small disagreement between two individuals who have completely different tastes in anime. Trying to say that one is better than the other makes no sense of course, as there is no such thing as objectivity in rating an anime’s quality.

Phantom’s got a good plot which is unpredictble and the character development so far seems promising.The training episodes were pretty cool and the way ein f***ks around with Zwei’s psych was disturbing but quiet entertaining.The action is like a tribute to Noir and we know how awesome the action in Noir was.It also helps it’s got a creepy but awesome soundtraack which sets the mood for these type of intense animes.Well if you can’t handle this intensity then it’s your loss in missing out on a great show.

Hi, GS33, I guess we’re the first TWO females around here, or no one else is sayin’… I just joined, but I’ll weigh in on what I’m liking. Mostly, I try to give stuff a chance, because I almost missed out on Trigun by stopping after ep 4 and was dragged back by friends.

I’m liking 07Ghost, cuz I’m a Dattebayo fan and the action hooked me, even if I usually don’t go for pseudo-European uniforms and settings and moe nuns.

I’m liking Phantom because I like guns and action and Noir and memory-wiped killers; Gunslinger Girls, anyone? I was hooked right off the bat by the references to Tarantino and Black Lagoon. I wish Ein looked more like Revy.

I’m watching Higashi no Eden, but don’t know if I like it yet. I kinda thought they miscast Howl in the lead role… and the girl’s too damn cute and dumb. But the science fiction and mystery keep me watching.

Sports? I like the visual creativity in Basquash!, leaning heavily on Macross F influences, but I simply love Cross Game, which is looking to be better than Touch. But Saki’s high quality and yuri aren’t enough to keep me watching a show about mah-jongg.

I usually go for historical anime with katana (Samurai X Trust & Betrayal, my number one of ALL TIME), but I think Sengoku Basara plays like they want to make it into a live action starring Gackt.

I like environmental themes and sci-fi so I wanted Shangri-La to be great – loved the opening, she puts her schoolgirl uniform on to be released from prison, and I WANT her weapon, but the series is beginning to lose me…

Still undecided about Tears to Tiara, has plusses and minuses, but to my shock, Pandora Hearts is pulling me in. It’s the first Alice knockoff that’s done so.

Asura ecchi, no interest. Hanasakeru seishounen’s guys are pretty, but it’s kinda dumb; may go rewatch Ayashi no Ceres instead if they don’t liven the story up. I can’t believe anyone, male or female, is watching Queen’s Blade.

Haven’t seen enough of others yet to make any kind of call.
